12-07-21 Makapu'u Tide Pools Sunrise

I have a very difficult time getting up early in the morning for sunrise picture taking.  Perhaps it's because I don't go to sleep early...  Having said that, this morning I braved the early morning and joined up with a bunch of friends to shoot the sunrise from the Makapu'u tide pools.

About half an hour before sunrise this is what we saw.

Kailua to the left and KMCAS to the right.

This must house the pumps that move the water to Sea Life Park for their aquariums.  I say this because it was making machine sounds.

Not quite sunrise yet.

Found this monument and offerings.

Here comes the sun...

The shadow on the right side horizon is the island of Molokai.

Hang gliders launch from the top of those peaks.

My attempt at a panorama.  Click on it for a larger image.

12-07-20 Kamehameha Highway, Haleiwa Sunset

According to TPE Ephemeris the sun was supposed to set in such a way that the highway would appear to lead directly to the setting sun.

So can you guess where I spent Friday evening?

"Beam me up, Scotty"

Just follow the red dirt road.

Pineapples everywhere...

Can you believe this all went from sugar cane to pineapple.  Still pineapple but no longer as important as it once was.

Yes we do have traffic in Hawaii.

Pretty bright, huh?

Sometimes I like my mistakes.

This is what I saw across the street.

Close but no banana...

Looking behind me, I noticed the sky had become very pretty.

Vehicles were just zippin' by.

Can you see the sliver of a moon at the top in the center?

12-07-15 Werts Family Reunion Ala Moana Beach Park

I was honored to receive an invitation to the Werts family reunion held today at Ala Moana Beach Park.  Deb's siblings have all returned to spend some time with their mom and each other...so it was kind of them so allow us to be part of their ohana's initial gathering and picnic.

I saw some old friends again, made some new friends and was finally able to meet some people that up till now had only been facebook names.

Daisy & Tracy good to meet you ladies.

Jim & Ann great seeing you again.

The Werts Family, that's my friend Deb in the middle.

The entire Werts family.

This blanket is so cool.

Andagi happy to be out.

12-07-13 Magic Island Sunset & Hilton Hawaiian Village Fireworks Display

This past evening a group of us went to Magic Island to take pictures of the Sunset followed by pictures of the Hilton Hawaiian Village's weekly fireworks show.

As I was driving up to the Magic Island parking lot I saw this sand dog on the wall and knew I would have to run back to take pictures of it.

Turns out the sculptor is a Swiss National that's traveling through the US.

She's from Slovakia and is here attending Hawaii Pacific University.

Check out the tattoo on his bicep, pretty cool, huh.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village has this show every week on Friday evening beginning at 7:45pm.
