I just learned that "Red Tailed Hawk" was written by Kate Wolf's first music partner George Schroder...
From Reverbnation:
"Sang for pennies in my Godfather's skid row bar in San Francisco as a kid of 4-6, learned my gospel tunes in the Little Brown Church in Magalia, CA. Original member of the non existent Rocky Creek Conspiracy, first music partner w Kate Wolf, wrote Red Tail Hawk and so on. Picked and sang a few tunes over the years w lots of folk including Kenny Hall, "Jelly Roll" Gil Turner, Steve Young, Michael Kern, Steve Gillette, High Country, Styx River Ferry, Cat Mother, Gene Parsons, etc. Spent a lot of time in Russia working to end cold war and such. I have a lot of stories about San Francisco in 40s 50's and 60's. Worked for a bit in late 70's for Earth, Wind and Fire, been everything from a soda jerk to a high rise construction manager and hazardous waste contractor.I garden and cook organic. I'm 72 and I've stayed busy and jumped around a lot, so I could bore you with bio for days...æ"
The Redtail Hawk
The Redtail Hawk writes songs across the sky
There's music in the waters flowing by
There's music in the waters flowing by
You can hear a song each time the winds sighs
In the golden rolling hills of California
In the golden rolling hills of California
In the golden rolling hills of California
In the golden rolling hills of California
It's been so long, love, since you said good-bye
My cabin's been as lonesome as a cry
But there's comfort in the clouds drifting by
In the golden rolling hills of California
In the golden rolling hills of California
A neighbour came today to lend a hand
And he saw I'd fixed the road as best I can
But there's just some things that need a man's hand
In the golden rolling hills of California
In the golden rolling hills of California
The Redtail Hawk writes songs across the sky
There's music in the water flowing by
and you hear a song each time the wind sighs
In the golden rolling hills of California
In the golden rolling hills of California
My cabin's been as lonesome as a cry
But there's comfort in the clouds drifting by
In the golden rolling hills of California
In the golden rolling hills of California
A neighbour came today to lend a hand
And he saw I'd fixed the road as best I can
But there's just some things that need a man's hand
In the golden rolling hills of California
In the golden rolling hills of California
The Redtail Hawk writes songs across the sky
There's music in the water flowing by
and you hear a song each time the wind sighs
In the golden rolling hills of California
In the golden rolling hills of California

Kate was indeed a talented and beautiful soul, but Red-tailed hawk was written by a friend of mine named George Shroder of Northern California. He gave her the song. I don't know why writing credit was not given to him, but this seems pretty unfair to me and I think people should know the truth.
Anonymous, thank you for the information. I've corrected the credit and added George's bio statement from Reverbnation.
