My Adventure With Brandon

Brandon called and asked if I'd like to shoot in town on Friday the 1st of March. 

He picked me up at the Pearl City Wal-Mart and off we went.  Our First stop was the Bernice Puahi Bishop Museum more affectionately known as Bishop Museum.  It was after hours and we weren't sure we could get onto the grounds...but we found an open gate and just meandered in. 

I believe this is the Castle Memorial building.

Our next stop was St Theresa School and the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa of the Child of Jesus.  Brandon grew up near here and attended services at the church.

Before we began taking pictures we checked with a priest and got his okay.  

At this time in the afternoon/evening the light was shining directly into the cathedral.   This lower window fascinated me.

I found this on the pillars at the entrance to the cathedral.

We left the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa of the Child of Jesus and headed down to Kakaako Waterfront Park.  

Brandon and I got seperated at the park so I returned to the car and waited.  This is what I did to keep me occupied.

An Adventure with Gerry Feb. 28

Brandon, Gerry and I had set up this Thursday as a day to revisit Hickam Flats for a Sunset photo opportunity.  Unfortunately Brandon had to work and was unable to join us.  So Gerry and I met up at the Moanalua Shopping Center, changed plans, and headed off for Ford Island instead.  When we stopped at the Admiral Clarey Bridge gate we discovered that Gerry's pass was no longer valid and we would have to go to the Hickam AFB entrance to gain entry...another change in plans.  We went down by Schooners Restaurant and shot the sunset from there.

The rippling water contrasted nicely with the grooves in the small boat launch ramp.

It's a bit bumpy.

I remember sailing Hobie Cats on Okinawa at the beach next to Naha Airport.

 

I found what I think was a mooring block, at one time.  

As the sun began to set the sky tried to light up for us.

The large "golf ball" in the upper left is an X band  radar platform that was originally supposed to be stationed in the Bering Sea near the Aleutian Islands.  Apparently it was to monitor the Russian, Chinese & North Korean rocket launches. 

Well the idea never panned out and now it looks like it's going to be in Hawaii.

That's the Admiral Clarey Bridge aka Ford Island Bridge behind the sailboats. 

 
It lights up pretty nicely at night.

 I took this at the Koko Head Botanical Gardens last year.  They have a plumeria section at the front entrance.

From my back yard, I liked how the flowers lined up.

I caught this guy, trying to warm up, in the morning at Waiamea Valley Park.  He doesn't look very happy. 

I couldn't resist.  This is at the Turtle Bay Hotel.

This only flowers once a year but it's pretty spectacular when it does.

Death and decay...

They blend in pretty well.

I noticed that the trees were all planted in nice rows.

This is the sunrise.  If you look carefull in the background you can barely make out Diamond Head and the city of Honolulu.

2013-02-23 Kakaako Model Shoot with Janelle

My shooting partner Brandon was kind enough to invite me along when he did a photo shoot with his long time friend Janelle.  Initially we met at the Pearl City Wal-Mart parking lot then proceeded to down to the Pearl City Industrial Park in the valley between Pearl City and Waipio.  Brandon's thought was to do some initial pictures in a flood canal...unfortunately I took one look at the climb down and chickened out.  :-(

From there we moved on the the Kakaako area and the street art that had done during the recent Pow Wow event.

Pretty cool, yeah?

Janelle is so pretty and has such a nice personality.  I can see why she and Brandon have been long time friends.

Really like how the background art and colors work with Janelle's outfit.

 

This was just fascinating to me...

This is perhaps my favorite piece there.  He also did one, that I really liked, last year.

Yup, right around the corner.

I really pushed the colors in this, but I like the effect.
