12-11-28 University of Hawaii Manoa

Daido Moriyama gave a presentation on his work, at the University of Hawaii Manoa Art Auditorium, in conjunction with the Framing Paradise: Photography and Waikīkī exhibition in the Art Gallery.  The exhibition began October 7 and runs through December 7, 2012.

12-11-27 EOH Kuli'ou'ou Beach Park Sunset

Hooked up with the EOH group, this evening, at Kuli'ou'ou Beach Park in Hawaii Kai.  I wasn't sure at first how things would go because there was no way we were going to see the actual setting sun on the horizon.  Instead we'd have to be satisfied with the colors in the sky and clouds.

High tide was at 3pm so we caught a dropping tide and by 5 it had begun to expose the various sand bars.

We waded out to the nearest island bordering Paiko Lagoon.  I saw this piece of driftwood and spent some time photographing it from various angles.

That's Koko Head in the background.  I may have "pushed" this image a bit too much as the border of the main branch is doubling.

Still on the island this is one of the channels that allow water to go in and out of Paiko Lagoon.

As the tide receded these ripples covered the sand bars.

Sun is beginning to set.

We got some of the high wispy clouds that make for nice sunsets.

The white cloud looks like a huge bird.

The nearly full moon finally popped up in the Koko Head saddle.

"Dumb Ways to Die is a public service announcement campaign by Metro Trains in Melbourne, Australia to promote rail safety.  With music by Tangerine Kitty "a video was developed by Pat Baron, animated by Julian Frost and produced by Cinnamon Darvall.  It was uploaded to YouTube on 14 November 2012 and made public two days later.  It used black comedy and featured "a variety of cute characters killing themselves in increasingly idiotic ways" culminating in three characters being killed by trains as a result of unsafe behaviour.  It was viewed 2.7 million times within 48 hours and 4.7 million times within 72 hours.""

The tune is catchy and despite the somewhat macabre theme the video will make you laugh.

12-11-19 IWSSB Waipio Community Shoreline Park Sunset

Brandon and I returned to West Loch Community Shoreline Park to shoot the sunset.  We also took some time to explore other parts of the park that he had not seen before.

Early on the sunset was good with color in the sky that reflected off the water nicely.

12-11-17 Decompression 2012 Ka Pilina Interactive Arts Society

Richard and I were invited by the Ka Pilina Interactive Arts Society to take pictures at their Decompression 2012 Event held this past Saturday at SOHO.  They had the use of the entire back room with second bar and stage. 

Late in the evening things began to really pick up.  Unfortunately I had parked in a municipal parkinlot that closed at midnight...so Richard and I had to leave.

Early in the evening things were slow so I took pictures of things that looked interesting to me.

12-11-12 IWSSB Nimitz Beach Sunset & Milky Way

On Veteran's Day Brandon and I joined Moose, Henry and Juro at Nimitz Beach to photograph the sunset and make yet another attempt at shooting the Milky Way...again no such luck.  This despite the fact that Juro loaned me the use of his 14-28mm f/2.8 Nikkor Lens.  I am still have a very difficult time working with manual focus and getting a reasonably sharp image.  But still, I had fun and was pleased with some of my pictures.

On the Honolulu side of the jetty is a small section of reef, acting as a breakwater, close to shore.  I usually get nice pictures of the water as it runs across the reef and then tumbles back onto the beach.

The light on the left come from a tank that is unloading oil to the refinery at Barbers Point.  There is a platform out there that they hook up to and begin pumping.  I brighter light in the sky is an airplane coming in to Honolulu International Airport.
