I went to Nuuanu today to pick bamboo shoots. It only took about an hour to get enought for us to eat for a few days. After mom came home we both sat down and began peeling off the outer layers to get to the soft insides. This is the hard part as the bamboo is covered with a fine hair that is very irritating to the skin. The pictures above show what was left after we finished peeling.

Hopefully mom will begin cooking the shoots tonight then they'll be ready to eat tomorrow. Mmmmmmmmm!!!



It doesn't show up in this picture but my fingers are covered with a dark substance that even after 3 scrubs with a brush refuse to come off.
