10-08-31 Kukaniloko B.........s State Monument.

Every since Leslie pointed it out to me, I've been really curious as to what the attraction was at this somewhat desolate place just outside of Wahiawa.  It's located just off Kamehameha Highway directly across from the road that leads to Whitmore Village.  The State of Hawaii has designated this as a historical site and there is a Hawaii Visitors Bureau marker designating it as such.

Can you guess why the site received this designation?

This group of Japanese tourists arrived just ahead of me.  They were very respectful and everyone bowed toward the monument before they passed between the two stones that act as a sort of gate.

This is the reason for designating the site as historical.  The stones are the key.

This came out a lot darker than I thought it would.  Double click on the image and a larger version is viewable.

Have you figured out why this is classified as a historical site?  No, it's not a Heiau nor is it an ancient Hawaiian burial ground.

In ancient Hawaiian days, the women gave birth here, sitting on the stones as they went through labor.
